Frequently asked questions

What is fleet telematics and how does it work?

Fleet telematics is technology that reports where your vehicles are and how they're being driven, using a GPS device fitted or connected to each vehicle. As vehicles move, the device sends location, speed and driving behaviour data back to a platform like MyEROAD, so you can see your whole fleet on one map, run reports, and get alerts without needing to call drivers or chase paperwork.

Do I need a driver-facing screen, or is a simple GPS tracker enough?

It depends on what you're trying to achieve. A GPS tracker like EROAD Locate or Etrack G70 will tell you where a vehicle is and how it's been driven, which is enough for some light vehicle fleets.

A driver-facing screen like the Ehubo2 goes further. It gives drivers real-time in-cab feedback when they brake hard, corner sharply or speed, so they can adjust their driving in the moment rather than finding out in a debrief weeks later.

If changing driver behaviour is a priority, the screen is what makes that possible.

What's different about EROAD telematics is that we have built the screen into the telematics device - an all-in-one solution - to reduce clutter in the vehicle and to keep drivers informed without using tablets or phones that are used for other purposes besides the driving task. Does telematics still work if a vehicle loses mobile signal?

For fleets working in remote areas or mobile blackspots, satellite connectivity means a vehicle doesn't just disappear from the map when it loses cellular coverage. This matters both for day-to-day operational visibility and for driver safety, particularly for drivers working alone or in remote conditions.

Is fitting telematics to my fleet a legal requirement?

Telematics itself isn't a blanket legal requirement, but it directly supports other regulatory and compliance obligations most fleets already have. It can support you in demonstrating reasonable steps taken to keep drivers safe under Chain of Responsibility. Data from telematics can also be used for tax reporting and rebates - EROAD FTC and FBT reports are accepted by the ATO.
