Battery units report on a schedule, not continuously, and a hardwired unit needs a power source. A tag is only located when an Ehubo2 comes close enough to hear it.

Fatigue is a factor in around 20% of fatal crashes in Australia, and after 18 hours awake, a driver reacts about as well as someone with a blood alcohol level of 0.05%. A council or agency carries the same work health and safety duty to its drivers as any other employer. EROAD helps you manage driver fatigue while your team is on the road, and coach safer driving using each driver's own trips.

Questions from public sector fleets

How do we answer a ratepayer or councillor who asks where a council vehicle was on a given day?

Retrospective Activity and Trip Investigator show exactly where a vehicle was between any two times you choose, down to the street and the minute. Instead of relying on a driver's memory or a paper log, you can pull up the actual record and answer with confidence.

How do we manage FBT correctly across pool vehicles and take-home vehicles in different departments?

Drivers log business or private for each trip directly on the screen, so the record builds automatically rather than depending on someone filling in a logbook at the end of the month. Fleet hierarchy groups let you report on each department or branch separately, so your FBT calculation reflects how vehicles are actually used across the organisation, not a single blanket assumption.

How do we manage a pool of shared vehicles across multiple sites or departments?

BookIt lets staff book a pool car themselves from their phone, and the utilisation dashboard shows which vehicles are getting used and which are sitting in the depot - useful when you're asked to justify fleet size or budget at the next council or board meeting.

Does Chain of Responsibility apply to our fleet?

Only if you run vehicles over 4.5 tonnes, such as waste trucks or heavier plant. For those vehicles, EROAD keeps overspeed events and service history as evidence of the reasonable steps you've taken. Lighter fleet vehicles, like pool cars and utes, aren't covered by Chain of Responsibility, though you can still get the same safety reporting.

Can we hold every driver to the same safety standard, even across a mixed fleet of trucks, utes and pool cars?

Yes. Drivers log in with a PIN regardless of which vehicle they're driving that day, so safety events are tied to the person, not the registration. That means the same coaching conversation and the same standard apply whether someone's driving a waste truck on Monday or a pool ute on Tuesday.

Are our records ready if we're audited or asked for them under a public records request?

Vehicle inspections, service history, FBT logs and safety events are all kept automatically in MyEROAD as your fleet works, rather than scattered across paper forms and spreadsheets. If an auditor, a regulator or a records request asks for evidence, it's already there to pull up rather than something your team has to go and reconstruct.
