Starting January 6, 2020, employers and service agents will be required to use the Clearinghouse to report certain drug and alcohol program violations and run electronic queries against the Clearinghouse when hiring a CDL driver. Manual inquiries with previous employers are still required for the preceding three years until 2023.

What you need to know:

  • All queries require driver consent and there are different types of consent depending on the query type.
  • CDL drivers must register for the Clearinghouse to provide consent and review their own records.
  • Each query costs $1.25 unless you purchase an unlimited query plan.

Make sure you’re ready!

FMCSA has developed a Learning Center with a lot of useful content to get you prepared for the mandatory use. It also has FAQs that answer those questions above in more detail. Learn more: https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/Learn
