Sustainability has transcended its status as a buzz word, and pressure for commercial fleets to take concrete action to reduce carbon emissions is mounting.

At the same time, however, the path toward sustainability is murky and there are plenty of obstacles, including operational realties, a dearth of infrastructure and the expense of transitioning to zero-emission vehicles. 

It’s a transitional phase for the trucking industry that has been dubbed the messy middle.  

Writing in Fleet Maintenance, EROAD Chief Sustainability Officer Craig Marris shares strategies for how transportation businesses can navigate the messy middle and emerge stronger and more sustainable. 

“Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and advanced data reporting, along with ensuring that physical vehicle inspections are completed, can help carriers begin to reduce their emissions today, while improving efficiency and safety and charting the course for true operational transformation and a more sustainable future,” he writes.
